We want to start by thanking all of you who joined our first #LeadLAP Watch Party of Ava DuVernay’s powerful documentary 13th. It was a truly eye opening film about the hundreds of years of systemic racism that existed and still exist in our country. If you haven’t watched it yet, we highly encourage you to do so. It’s available on Netflix, and you can access it free on YouTube here: 13th – A film by Ava DuVernay. As we watched the film together, we shared our thoughts, aha’s, reflections, and emotions in what turned into a courageous and beautiful dialogue on social media. That conversation continued in a spontaneously planned post viewing Zoom call where several of us were able to connect and continue the dialogue, share stories, and get to know one another on a deeper level. We are so blessed to have shared this experience with you. If you would like a peek into the conversation we had during our watch party on Twitter, you can see it here: Wakelet link for #LeadLAP13thWatchParty
We used our viewing of the film to jump start our #LeadLAP conversation on Saturday and you can acces the archive of that chat here: Wakelet link for 7.31.20 #LeadLAP Chat
As Dawn, Traci, Beth and I have been looking ahead to the future of supporting our #LeadLAP community in the work to end systemic racism in our schools, we all agree that continuing monthly watch parties is something we’d like to do this school year! Keep an eye out here, on Twitter or on Facebook for the announcement of next month’s watch party. We do hope you’ll join us and add your voice to the conversation!
This week, we also had the opportunity to chat with Jillian DuBois (@JillDuBois22) who has been participating in our Leading by Learning series since day one. She was so open, honest and courageous in sharing her journey of growth and action with us. Our conversation with her is actually what inspired this week’s #LeadLAP chat on listening with intentionality and heart, taking risks, and finding your voice. We will share out our video discussion with Jillian during our chat on Saturday morning, and on our blog next week. Below are the questions for this week’s chat. We’re looking forward to seeing you there!
