Lead Like a PIRATE Audiobook

You know there are some decisions you make and you instantly feel as though they were right. And then there are other times you continue to question yourself. One day back in December, I (Beth) was wishing I had stayed home after my day of travel delays that ended with my final flight being cancelled. I was stuck in Dallas, trying to get to San Diego to meet Shelley and record the audiobook version of our book. The holidays had just finished and I was exhausted. There were no more flights to San Diego, and I would have to redirect to Santa Ana and rent a car and drive over an hour from there to get to the recording studio. I was so close to rebooking and just heading back to Missouri, but something kept pushing me west.

Landing in California the sun was shining, and I felt a little confidence beginning to build…until I went to find my luggage…that had been sent somewhere else, but still, I picked up my rental car and headed to the studio. I am blessed to get to travel often and I had never had an experience quite like this one. It took me 24 hours to get from Missouri to San Diego. When I finally arrived, I knew I had made the right decision to keep going, even though there were plenty of opportunities to retreat into comfort.

As Beth was experiencing all of her delays, I (Shelley) was in San Diego keeping the studio updated on her progress, rearranging schedules, booking back-up studio time and settling into the idea that maybe it just wasn’t meant to be that the two of us would record this book together. It had already taken us over six months to get this recording date on the calendar! But after an exhausting and frustrating travel experience, Beth finally made it and we got to work.

We spent the next day and a half recording our book, our manifesto, and it was truly phenomenal. Not only did we get to spend time together (always something we love to do), but the reflective process of re-reading our work after publishing it three years earlier filled us with an overwhelming sense of pride – we learned that we still REALLY LOVE our book. We also discovered that there are so many things we have done in the last three years that we wanted to share, but we stuck to the script. And another thing we learned… It is surprisingly exhausting and detail-oriented work reading for an audiobook!

So now, here we are two months after that whirlwind couple of days thrilled to announce that our audiobook version of Lead Like a PIRATE is HERE!  And – BONUS! Dave went by the studio and read his foreword.

We haven’t listened to ourselves yet, so if you get to it before we do, we’d love to hear what you think. Hit us up on #LeadLAP to share your thoughts.
