#LeadLAP 13th Watch Party

Traci, Dawn, Beth and I are doing something different this week in our continued efforts to want to push the antiracism conversation forward as we work together to dismantle systemic racism in our schools.  If you have been on this journey with us so far, you know that one of the things we have discussed is our collective need to educate ourselves. Dawn and Traci have shared MANY incredible resources to help us do just that.

13th – the film directed by Ava DuVernay – is a 2016 documentary that explores “the intersection of race, justice, and mass incarceration in the United States.” And it is a film Traci and Dawn recommend that we all watch, so what better way for us to do that than with a #LeadLAP Watch Party?

This Friday night, Traci, Dawn, Beth and I will all come together virtually at 7:00 pm CST to watch the film, and we invite you, your families, your colleagues and anyone else to watch with us.  The film is available on Netflix and is also available on YouTube here: 13th – A film by Ava DuVernay We will be posting some questions, quotes, and things to think about on Twitter using the hashtag #LeadLAP13thWatchParty and on our Lead Like a PIRATE Facebook Page. We hope you will interact with us in one of those spaces.

We invite you to watch our video below to hear more about the watch party, but even more importantly… we get pretty raw and real as we are diving deeper into this work.

We do hope that you can make the time to watch with us on Friday, but if not, please DO take some time to watch the film before #LeadLAP on Saturday morning as Traci and Dawn will use the film as a jumping off point for this week’s conversation.

If you missed last week’s chat, you can see the video introduction to “The Staff Meeting” below and view the chat archive here: HERE.  We also did not get a blog up last week, so we wanted to share the archive of the July 18th conversation. To see the chat responses Click HERE.
